If I had a dollar for every time I tried to imitate something I’d just seen in a movie, dude I’d be a millionaire.

The Mighty Ducks got me strapping on a pair of in-line skates and practicing ‘soft hands’ while using an egg as a hockey puck.

Plot re-fresh…

The Mighty Ducks

Hotshot lawyer Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) is sentenced to community service by coaching District 5 a peewee hockey team, the worst team in the league.

D2: The Mighty Ducks

Bombay is forced to withdraw from the minor hockey league with a knee injury however he’s made head coach of Team USA Hockey for the Junior Goodwill Games.

D3: The Mighty Ducks

The Ducks accept scholarships to Eden Hall Academy, a high ranking prep school. But as freshmen they will have to face the snob varsity team.

The original Mighty Ducks was a surprise box-office success paving the way for sequels D2, D3, an animated TV series and even the introduction of an official Mighty Ducks team into the NHL.

“We Are The Champions” and “We Will Rock You” by Queen were the Mighty Ducks trademark theme songs.

During the peak of my Ducks obsession I could honestly quote each movie from start to finish but this line from D3 (spoken by Coach Orion) resonated with me the most:

“Listen, if you learn nothin’ else when you’re here, you learn this, all right? This is not just about hockey. It’s easy to be confident when you have control of the puck.

It’s very, very difficult to keep that confidence when you gotta take whatever strange bounces life throws your way.

Don’t be careless, but don’t be too careful either. You cannot be afraid to lose! That’s how you gain the confidence to attack the game when the puck isn’t yours.

That’s how you attack life… even when you think you don’t have any control. And that’s how you play real defense.”

Bravo Disney!
